Cal Poly Pomona's Department of Architecture (CPPARC) is seeking a new -Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Architecture -to join the faculty who is committed to advancing the discipline and profession of Architecture. We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrated ability or potential to actively engage in and support the Inclusive Excellence of our academic community.The new faculty will be expected to teach architecture design studio, lecture courses, and seminars within the B.Arch and M.Arch programs. The new faculty member will also contribute service to the operational requirements of the department, college, and university. Faculty are also expected to engage in creative/scholarly activities as professional development that contributes to their teaching. We welcome candidates who can bring one or more of the following expertise: Architecture Professional Practice, Integration of Technology in Design & Construction, Comprehensive Design, Project Development, and Current Trends in Architectural Design Thinking and Research.Students are the strength of Cal Poly Pomona Architecture, and many are the first in their family to attend college, most come from diverse backgrounds and a substantial number of students transfer from a community college to fulfill their dream of becoming an architect. The department fosters a collegial environment and is committed to the values of equity and inclusivity in teaching and mentoring diverse student populations. The ideal candidate is expected to -build upon the -unique strengths of our CPPARC students and community, and the CPP commitment to Inclusive Excellence.

  • An advanced degree (Master or Ph.D) in architecture or field(s) related to the position description. At least one degree must be in architecture from an accredited program. The Advanced degree must be completed by the start of the appointment;
  • Experience teaching design studios, lecture courses or seminars at the postsecondary education level
  • A Student Success Statement that demonstrates your commitment and record of contributions through applicant's practice, teaching, scholarship, or service, by addressing at least two of the -inclusive excellence criteria -listed above.Preferred/Desired Qualifications:Preferred candidates will demonstrate a capacity in most of the following:
    • Experience teaching or potential to teach in the areas of professional practice, such as professional ethics, regulatory requirements, or business of architecture;
    • Experience teaching or potential to teach comprehensive design, such as building technologies, materials, envelopes, structural systems, sustainable practices or assessing building performance;
    • Evidence of advancing academic knowledge and/or practice of architecture through research, scholarship, and/or creative activities as described in the position;
    • Licensed to practice architecture in the United States or on the path to licensure in the United States.
    • Record of experience in coordination of students and faculty in a design studio and/or student advising, student research or student club activities
    • Record of service on university committees, and/or service to the discipline of architecture and/or professional organizations, and/or community organizations.A completed application will consist of:
      • Cover letter that describes the candidate's experiences and interests in teaching, research or creative activities, and service (1 page maximum);
      • A Student Success Statement (up to 2 pages, single-spaced) about your teaching or other experiences, successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population. Please address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above;
      • Statement how minimum and preferred qualifications are met. For clarity, each qualification must be addressed separately in the same order as listed in the description of the position (2 pages maximum);
      • A curriculum vitae including relevant experiences such as presentations, publications, grants, awards, professional experience, community and academic service and credentials;
      • A PDF portfolio (formatted 8 - x 11) with research, scholarly and/or creative works, and other achievements relevant to the position (20 pages maximum);
      • Contact information for three individuals who can speak to the candidate's potential for success in this position
