ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. Completes ACC's professional development program as indicated by the Program Director.

Develops and completes goals established in her/his professional development plan.

Contacts and establishes an adequate number of fieldwork sites to ensure that students are offered the diversity and breadth of experiences needed for entry-level job preparation.

Arranges for the placement and assignment of students enrolled in Level I and II fieldwork courses.

Develops and updates (as needed) the OTA student Fieldwork Handbook.

Develops and updates as needed, an ACC's OTA Program Handbook directed to clinical educators who will be supervising our students. The handbook will contain important information on OTA Program's philosophy, curriculum, courses content, ACOTE Fieldwork standards, as well as Fieldwork Coordinator and Program Director contact information.

Works with the college's business/legal office to maintain an updated clinical agreement or contract with each clinical site.

Updates clinical agreement documents such as obtaining renewal signatures, explaining unique requirements of a clinical site, and terminating contracts with clinic sites unable to provide appropriate clinical education.

Provides data and reports to the Program Director as requested for inclusion in ACOTE reports, state and college surveys and databases, reports to advisory committee, etc.

Works with the academic faculty to review and revise curriculum and fieldwork requirements as needed to reflect current employment and clinical practices in compliance with ACOTE.

Evaluates insurance and liability issues related to clinical sites, and provides appropriate documentation.

Maintains an up-to-date clinical database and student fieldwork records.

Participates in professional, volunteer organizations which include membership in AOTA.

Attends all occupational therapy faculty department meetings as requested.

Keeps active membership and participation with professional associations (i.e. AOTA, OTAC, etc.) at a national and local level.

Maintains accurate clinical site information database, including contact information and specific contractual agreement termination and expiration dates, and initiates renewal process timely.

Determines that students have completed all clinical sites pre-requisites which include proof of liability insurance, criminal background clearance, immunizations, health insurance or waiver, and CPR course and any other requirements requested by the specific clinical sites.

Develops fieldwork objectives in collaboration with the clinical educator at the fieldwork sites.

Maintains communication with established fieldwork sites and clinical educators through a variety of media as mentioned above.

Collaborates with the fieldwork educators in assignment of final grades for students.

Plans and coordinates an annual/biannual clinical educators' meeting to be held on campus.

Works with students and/or clinical educators to resolve problems as they arise in a manner that considers the students' needs, college policies, accreditation guidelines and the profession's standards.

Participates in fieldwork educational support groups at both the state and national level.

Collaborates with clinical educators to provide learning opportunities and continuing education to prepare and enhance fieldwork educators' knowledge and skills.

Coordinates a plan to best observe, instruct, and evaluate students learning and clinical practical skills and educator performance which includes a direct observation clinical assessment of skills in applicable setting for related area of instruction.

Works with clinical educators to clarify policies and procedures specific to facility.

Ensures that clinical educators utilize care planning time to direct students to available resources needed for clinical preparation.

Ensures that clinical educators assess student knowledge & skill level in order to promote safety and optimal care to patients assigned at the clinical site.

Ensures that clinical educators provide periodic feedback of clinical performance immediately after observation event and/or of overall student performance at midterm and end of semester.

Maintains professional appearance for position and serves as a role model, leader and mentor to the college community.

Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.

Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.

Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.

Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or college information as required.

Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.

Supervises the Clinical Relationship Facilitator, Occupational Therapy Assistant Program in recruiting new fieldwork sites, development of the site, and maintenance of records as well as promoting frequent communication with the sites.

May perform other duties as assigned.


High school graduate or equivalent required.

Minimum of a bachelor's degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional or national accrediting body.


Current license as either an Occupational Therapy Assistant or an Occupational Therapist in California.

Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) or a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).

Current CPR Card.


A minimum of three years of practical experience in the occupational field.

Documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibilities and knowledge of the content delivery method.

Teaching experience preferred.

Knowledge of local health care resources and communities is preferred.

Knowledgeable of education standards such as Title IV, ACOTE, ABHES, BPPE, and other accreditation standards preferred.

Experience with MS Word and Excel tables.
