Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In
this job, you'll be part of the Asset Strategy & Planning (ASP)
organization, which is responsible for developing a portfolio of
executable plans to ensure SCE meets its short- and long-term
company objectives, including improvements to our electric grid to
meet our goals in reducing catastrophic wildfires, enabling a clean
energy future, and designing the grid of the future. In this role
you will help establish and maintain a consistent capital project
planning and engineering initiation process that includes critical
input from multiple stakeholders, including strategy and execution
teams. You will work with organizations across SCE to ensure our
planning process efficiently releases quality projects that align
to the company's strategic objectives. This includes identifying
and addressing any overlapping engineering scope across capital
programs to minimize or eliminate duplication of work during the
project planning/initiation process. This position will report
directly to the Manager of the Conductor and Cable team under the
Asset engineering organization within ASP. Position overview This
Engineer 3, Cable Assets position will focus on underground cable
and components, and development of apparatus and system solutions
to improve system reliability. The engineer is responsible for
investigating apparatus and technology and implementing solutions
to improve system reliability. The Conductor and Cable group is a
centralized group focused on all things cable, components, and wire
from 600 volts to 500 kV. The group works with internal business
partners and stakeholders to identify needs and work with internal
and external business partners and industry experts to provide
solutions. The group will utilize its technical expertise to shape
internal and industry standards. Responsibilities may include:
- Work with other SCE groups to collect SCE internal system
performance data, validate assumptions, establish calculation
methods conforming to industry practice.
- Perform data mining, analysis, calculations to determine system
reliability, establish trending, identify gaps and opportunities
for system reliability improvement and propose solutions for
improving system reliability
- Support strategic equipment specification development that will
form the basis for new equipment and materials that will be used on
the SCE grid modernization for years into the future; leading the
development, specification, and quality assurance of major
electrical equipment and material supply required to support
T&D.
- Perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis on cable and
components.
- Provide technical engineering support to a range of equipment
implementations in Distribution, Transmission, and Substation.
- Serve on teams working on testing new technologies or alternate
products and alternate suppliers.
- Travel to factories to perform design review, plant inspection,
QA/QC, witness/review factory acceptance testing
- Prepare technical reports for product performance, RFP
evaluation, white paper for standards, etc.
- Update SCE technical equipment specifications used by
Procurement for purchasing equipment.
- Provide technical expertise for Design, Maintenance, and
Standards for assigned product lines.
- Support device testing with field crews to verify devices meet
specifications after installment.
- Work with manufactures to improve and develop equipment for
improving SCE reliability
- Serve as an expert for the organization in a specific area or
responsibility.
- Prepare and present technical and business presentation to
technical staff, senior management team and industry experts.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
- Must have a bachelor's degreein Electrical Engineering,
Science, or related technical discipline.
- Must have five (5) or more years of technical experience in
distribution, substation, and/or transmission engineering related
to the application of electrical utility apparatus. Desired
qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Electrical
Engineering
- Advanced degree(s) in Engineering
- Demonstrated experience with apparatus, standards, system
studies.
- Demonstrated experience mitigating issues to develop and
implement changes as appropriate.
- Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant
areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer
satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop
and execute business plans, manage information, and provide
exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning,
decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability
to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
- Must demonstrate the ability to present complex concepts and
obtain support/buy-in from technical staff, management, and senior
leadership.
- Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work
practices. You should know Hybrid: this position's work mode
ishybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set
number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining
days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in
