Position Title Director of Research and Advancement Analytics Campus Western University Campus-Pomona, CA Department 5501-University Advancement Type of Position Administration Job Summary The Director of Research and Advancement Analytics reports to the Sr. Director of Advancement Information Services ( AIS ) and works within University Advancement (UA). The candidate is expected to collaborate with members of the UA team, which includes UA's leadership, Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Foundations, Stewardship, and Advancement Information Services. S/he provides leadership and sets strategic direction for prospect identification, qualification and rating; prospect development, management and tracking; prospect strategy development and development research in support of the University's fundraising priorities.
The director is also responsible for analytics and data reporting. S/he employs rigorous data organization and analysis techniques to develop solutions for the challenges facing development and constituent relations professionals at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU). S/he will work closely with AIS to provide daily, weekly, monthly, and annual development reports, including but not limited to fundraising, campaign, action, opportunity, and ad hoc reports. University Advancement's mission is to cultivate relationships that engender philanthropic support of Western University of Health Sciences. The Director of Research and Advancement Analytics plays a key role in meeting our mission. Essential Job Duties:
The Director of Research and Advancement Analytics is responsible for strategically building a collaborative and centralized prospect management system while simultaneously providing research, analytics, and fundraising reporting services in support of reaching WesternU's fundraising goals. The director works closely with fundraising staff and other stakeholders to develop strategies encouraging proactive research and prospect management efforts to ensure WesternU is building a broad-based principal, major and annual gifts pipeline using new technologies and existing resources. This includes proactively identifying prospects, developing relationship-based prospect research, strategic planning and reporting, and creating, implementing, and managing policies and procedures related to prospect management and research. Additionally, s/he will serve as the primary data analyst for University Advancement and will supply all dashboard reporting on a scheduled and on-demand basis. S/he will supervise the Prospect Research Associate. An understanding of the donor cultivation cycle and the critical role of prospect research at each stage.
2. Demonstrated success in developing sophisticated prospect research and analysis to advance an institution's fundraising success.
3. Must possess the ability to assess the value of and synthesize large volumes of information into coherent well-written documents, and work with changing priorities and multiple projects.
4. Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment with an excellence in a variety of competencies including: investigative and problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and a high-level of attention to detail and active listening skills.
5. Knowledge of the range of resources available to development researchers, including tools and vendors desired.
6. Strategic thinker, effective in moving strategic agendas, politically savvy, ensure the utmost discretion in all matters, as well as possess an ability to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, have a sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.

9. Must have advanced knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other donor databases.
10. Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Office 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
11. Must have advanced knowledge conducting in-depth prospect research and using research tools such as LexisNexis, Foundation Center, DonorSearch, Blackbaud Analytics, and/or similar research and wealth screening tools.
12. Must have experience in creating dashboard reports using Raiser's Edge NXT , Excel, Access, and Crystal Reporting.
13. Must have advanced knowledge of various data analytics tools, using techniques including, but not limited to, linear regression, logistic regression, K-means clustering, decision trees, and neural networks.
14. Must have knowledge and be comfortable using and presenting through video- and audio-conferencing platforms. Required Qualifications 1. Education: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Advanced degree highly desired.
2. Experience: Five years of management experience in an academic or non-profit environment in the areas of prospect research, database management, and analytics required. Experience with Wealth Screenings using ResearchPoint, DonorSearch, or other wealth screening tools. Experience with a Customer Relationship Management system utilizing data and analytics to drive fundraising success. Raiser's Edge experience or other fundraising software. Experience managing staff. Familiarity with the demands of Prospect Research and reporting during a capital campaign. Preferred Qualifications Supervisor experience - This position will supervise the Prospect Research Associate. List comments regarding work hours This is a full-time, exempt-level position. The regular hours are Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Availability for occasional evening and weekend work. Posting Date 12/15/2020 Closing Date Special Instructions to Applicants Job Duty RESEARCH (40%)
1. Conduct extensive financial and biographical research on prospects by identifying and analyzing wealth indicators, such as real estate holdings, equity holdings, compensation, family foundation assets, and philanthropy. Compose detailed research materials, such as profiles, on prospects for members of the University's leadership and development officers.
2. Proactively identify new prospects for research using database query, screening, input from development officers and other methods. Organize completed research by priority, area, and assigned solicitor, and set meetings for review with University Advancement's (UA) leadership and relevant development officer.
3. In collaboration with UA leadership and the development officers, plan strategy, analyze, and help refine portfolios.
4. Track and record all research in the database, allowing for efficient reporting.
5. Take the lead in regular screenings of subsets of the donor database, including developing, with staff input, the criteria for the screening list, conducting the screening, and importing the results back into the database, disseminating the results, and parsing the list for prioritization of research and moves management.
6. Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and affiliation. Assess and assign ratings based on detailed wealth analysis. Percentage Of Time 40 Job Duty REPORTING (40 %) 7. Play a lead role in conceptualizing and designing pipeline, portfolio, action, and other prospect management reports. Update reports as necessary.
8. Disseminate prospect management reports to development officers on a regular basis, ask for feedback, and facilitate updates to the database.
9. Develop dashboards, lists, and other methods of disseminating portfolio and other prospect reports to fundraisers on a real-time basis.
10. Design and run development dashboard reports that provide daily, weekly, monthly, and annual fundraising results. This includes but is not limited to quarterly fundraising, by source, by use, campaign, action, and opportunities reports.
11. Provide descriptive, predictive, and other modeling, as needed.
12. Run ad hoc reports as needed.
13. Create and maintain templates for research reports such as research profiles and biographical summaries.
14. Provide briefing materials to the President and other high-level University officials for events, dinners, and other interactions with selected donors and prospects. Conduct general prospect management and database tasks, including but not limited to data entry and data integrity reviews and clean-up.

Work independently and as part of the University Advancement team on special nonrecurring and on-going projects, which may include, planning and coordinating presentations, disseminating information, and coordinating appeals.
